The gun shop was trying to sell him .38 Super... Does any manufacturer still load .38 auto?

Do an internet search. Several places sell it.

Thanks. Some great leads. The gun is nice, the only negative is the forward part of the slide (about 4" of it) on the right side where the caliber is inscribed is seriously pitted. The gun was his grandfathers, briefly stolen, then recovered. While it was stolen, it was temporarily put in a hot stove which is why it rusted. However the grips are fine. Sadly the rest of the gun is 90 pct.

You could tell him it's easy to reload. I make them all the time.

I remember back in the 60's you would see those old guns and nobody wanted them. Today they seem very cool. According to Joe Salter's and other prices I have seen they are worth $1500 up, today.

Just don't let him even try shooting any .38 super in it. They do come apart easy with .38 super ammo. Places like Salter's are well over priced to start with and your right I remember when no one wanted one. They just sat around in a display case at the dealers gathering dust.
