Amateur question,
will the 1905 Springfield bayonet mount on an 1898 Krag?

:icon_lol: Sometimes it is. If not I'll find a Brown Bess bayonet for it.

It should.

Interesting tidbit: The Krag bayonet was used at West Point on the Krag, the Springfield '03, and the M1 Garand. They didn't change bayonets until they were issued M14's.

My Krag and 1905s all interchange. With the long 1905 on the 30" barrel, you almost have a pike!

From the Krag thru the M1 the system was the same. Individual bayo's on individual rifle's may not fit due to slight tolerance differances. Same is true with Mauser rifle from at least 1898 thru and beyond WWII, made by any country that manufactured Mausers.

That was the idea -- the technical term for the length of a rifle with a fixed bayonet is called "reach of pike."
