I was looking at a .25 cal Stevens 44 this seller had listed and noticed this:

Looks OK to me at $875 and no bids yet. I love the "rare and correct" 1901 sight. But it looks like a pretty decent rifle that you could take to a shooting match, just add a sling. Assuming the bore is OK.

Looks pretty nice and ding-less to me, unlike the rifles I put together out of parts. Afraid I have more than enough of them though.

I agree with Bob... Not a bad looking rifle at that!

I had been watching that same gun. But daughter decided to get married in Sept. so funds not there. I think you should pull the trigger.

I kinda put this up for youse guys. My next buy, if I can swing it, will most likely be an '84 trapdoor. The new Portland house has a fireplace which just cries out for a long-barrel rifle with a spike bayonet hanging over it. One I can take to the range.

Portland, OR?? My birthplace! I assume they haven't finished installing the 10-foot monument celebrating my birth there?? :D

Actually they did put something up, I think I saw it. It's a heroic figure of a woman reaching her hand out and down to the people below ..

I'll check to see if it's **your** monument, and if it's not, I'll try to correct the misperception.

I could check myself, but have to make sure the statute of limitations has run out!! :D

Rick, I think it's the statue of limitations. BTW, I thought about it and bid on the rifle. It was just too nice, even has the oiler!

Good luck on it Jon, you might regret drawing attention to it here, but I hope not. I have a Mosin with spike bayo I'll sell you for over the fireplace. I know, not the same.

See ya a Camp Perry Jon, not much time to make travel arrangements! I'll bet the wood is orange underneath! One thing I also noted is the little cut below the windage locking lever on the handguard.

Thanks for the encouragement and peer review, guys!

Well, I did get the bid! It's the most I've ever paid for a gun, except for the custom Krag I had Roy Bedeaux make up. I got Doc's gun Barn lined up to receive the shipment. The seller has a money-back, no questions asked guarantee, which seems pretty decent to me. But I don't see sending it back if it's the same rifle as in the pictures. Now for a bayonet and (new) sling.

Yeah, maybe I can get into match shooting in OR - never tried that, but my wife is after me to give up the bike racing. And I guess the trapdoor will have to wait a while.

I think that the shoe-shine guy has been buffing that bolt handle.

Give it a good hard look once in hand, last time I saw a bolt that shiney it was a brand new one from Poppert's gun parts. In fact it was so shiney, didn't go well with a fellows 98. We had to do a little home aging.
