I have a 1900 dated Krag Bayonet that was giving to me a few years ago by my local gun shop. It has what appears to be a brass insert in the barrel ring. The only rife that I have that barrel ring will fit is a Tokarev SVT 40. It does not lock in place. The only reference I see about larger-than-standard barrel holes being altered is on page 121 of, The Krag Rifle Story, and this was done only to 1892 bayonets. Any thoughts on who or why this was done?

The only official need for a non-standard Krag bayonet would have been for the 100 26" barreled BoOF rifles made in 1902. For a long time it was thought that no matching bayonets were made, but a couple have finally trickled out. The hole is slightly larger (not the big difference shown on yours) and a "26" is stamped on the cross-guard.

I wonder if it would fit a Winchester 1895 musket.

I wish I had Winchester 1895 musket so I could see.

I have no way to give a precise measurement but the ruler put it about ½ inch inside diameter.
