Col. Dickman was the OIC of the USMCR Sniper School at Camp Bullis, Texas in the 60's during the Vietnam War. During WW-2 he was an enlisted pilot and spent some time calling in close air support. During WW-2, as a Marine expert rifleman he had the collateral duty of sniper which is why he was in charge of the sniper school for the Marine reserves later in his career as a full Colonel. He was OIC of the USMCR national shooting team 1963-1972. He was General Lew Walt's Aide on the Clemency Board in Washington, and was briefly White House Chief of Staff after Haig's departure. If you will google "Express News Obituaries" you can read his obit in San Antonio. As an Army ROTC cadet in the 1960's I was fortunate enough to make his acquaintance which gave me the opportunity to train with the 4th Recon Bn sniper platoon in those bygone days. He was always willing to help any young shooter interested in marksmanship. For you aerophiles and pilots, he literally flew everything from the J2F Duck and N3N up through the F-4 Phantom. Quite a guy and a Marine Mustang of the old school. Semper Fidelis, Col. Bill!
