I got the chance to get the carbine home to do more research on it (see post below). I'm doing this because the bore is decent (MW 1.5) and bright, no pitting. Clearly a cut down rifle, heck, the exterior pitting on the barrel shows that. The difference in color below the band shows it's been together a long time. Can't quite make out the cartouche date, looks to me like 1898 or 99 - too faint to tell. Very nice cut-down on the stock - clean patch for the ram rod channel. I'm going to shoot cast in this as soon as I return from vacation and might make an offer in the range of $325-350. I'll post the pics and let y'all opine.
