I've been following a auction on GunBrokers for a Sedgley Sporter. It had a Lyman 48 and an Lyman Alaskan in a Griffin & Howe mount. It had no bids until the last two days. Starting bid was $895. I bid $910( all I had to spare) and it sold for $915. I thought it would go for at least $1500. I've seen some sell for over $2,000. Am I wrong? What are Sedgley's worth?

There are many things wrong with this rifle IMO. I can't tell if the stock has been refinished but looks a little light color to me. The recoil pad has been added, a long time ago but added. The G&H mount levers are turned way to far, I'm not sure why. The bolt job and stock cutout for the bolt are not done very well. The floorplate has been changed to a quick opening one then buffed and re-blued. The barrel, action and bolt all show signs of a re-blue. You got outbid, that is a good thing.

Thanks Michael. I noticed the levers. I didn't think the pad was out of place because I saw another Sedgley with the same kind of pad. Then, I've seen them without pads also.
Like your book. Waiting on the next one.

You lucked out and missed it. Stock has been redone, that recoil paid was added at some time or another, been completely refinished as one point.

Thanks Weasel. I checked the internet for Sedgley's for sale and found one with the same type of pad and it sold for a lot more than this one. That threw me off a little. Sometimes your emotions get in the way of sound judgement.
