Okay it did not come from the CMP but the blade is poor while the scabard is cool. Modified very late tot he model 1910 hanger. Note the X8 on the blade no sure what that is . The chip in the grips was supposed to be a bullet strike but for some reason I doubt that. $200 at one of my regular pawn shops. Second bayonet in a week this i the other one.

The X8 is the lower portion of an "Eagle's Head"nspector's mark. The top half of the eagle's head is very weak, due to a sloppy strike. The full eagle's head is really quite nice in my opinion.

The question is (and I don't have the answer) what is the inspection mark doing on a 1910 dated bayonet? This mark was used at Springfield only in part of the year of 1918, did not exist in 1910. The only thing I can think of is that the bayonet went through some sort of repair or rebuild at Springfield in 1918, but that is only an educated guess, not known fact.
