I researched and found only the 1917 blade was blued. All others were parked or arsenal
bright. I found such a blade in a type of bluing like the original m1903, Krags, and trapdoors.
Anybody else found any? It appears to have been sharpened before and after bluing. Serial #752928, SA 1917.

They were actually blued from about mid 1917 to late in 1918. Then they started to parkerize them. I think the bluing started around serial number 700,000.

The bluing was a farily high polish in the beginning but became more dull as the War went on because Springfield did not polish them as much prior to finish.

Thank you for the information AND the pictures. The 1917 I have is blued as per the
photos, but not as nice a condition. It is NOT cold blued, but appears like the photos to have
been arsenal blued after being in arsenal white. The old blue line still shows if one looks
closely, but the arsenal stampings are sharp, not buffed. I'd send pictures, too, but don't
know how. I have digital camera for EBAY pictures, but do not know how to send to Culvers.
