Greetings, due to ill health in the family and perhaps a resulting non-predictable match schedule for me this coming season there may be days I can go shooting and the 100 yard reduced matches the only option. I have a great reduced load for my NM AR but I'd like to use either my 7.62 NM M1 or NM M1A at these matches at least sometimes.

Question, my NM AR 100 yd load is way way different than my XTC load, a 52 gr SMK over 748 rather than the 77 & 80 with Varget I use XTC. Is there a similar popular 100 yd combination for 7.62?? I know I will have to develop the load by starting low and working up but was hoping there might be a popular solution out there that might save me development time.

OR, is the 41.5 gr IMR 4895 and 168 THE combination for these matches too?

My 7.62 NM M1 is a 12 twist SA gov't barrel and my NM M1A is a Hart heavy 10 twist.

Thanks in advance!

You already know you don't need laser beams for 100yd.

A light bullet like the Speer 125TNT or Sierra 135MK on top of a moderate charge of a ball powder like 44.5gr of BL-C(2), AA2520 (if you trust AA powders), or the WW748 on your shelf wiil do fine and all you have to do is yank the handle on your progressive press.

If you want to stay with IMR4895 try the 125/135 and 41.5gr or a tad more. Less cost, less recoil, accurate enough. Or stick with the 168; you won't go wrong with it.

Thanks Maury, I have both 135 SMKs and 125 TNTs oh hand, I'll give them a whirl. That 600 yd reduced target and its 1/2" x-ring are a challange!!
