I took the Rem. 03 out today to shake off the dust. It is a target style set up with a globe front and peep rear. I shot it at 100 yds. unsupported bench and got some under 3/4 " groups. This is one fine set up with an unbelievable trigger. I surprized my self that I could still shoot a peep set up. I was shooting Win. 180 gr. soft-points.

I like the sock feet, and that looks like a nice rifle.

I'm going to try to work on mine this winter and shoot it in the spring

Looks almost like a CG-63 stock. Swede Mausers converted for civilian 300m shoots. Is the barrel free-floated as well?

The barrel is free floated. I haven't had the rifle disassembled to see if its bedded but it sure is tight. I'll try posting some better pictures sans the socks.:icon_scratch:

As good as that looks, it ought to shoot.

Stock looks great, I am sure with some load work you could get the groups down to 3/4" @ 100 for sure.

Nice stick! When, if ever, was that modified '03 a popular NRA Match Rifle? The '30's and pre and post-WWII years are a blur to me.

Stars-and-Bars,
Is that a USGI barrel? Very nice looking rifle.

Converted 03's were still very popular in high power when I started shooting in 1965. A lot of guys kept with them for their whole career in the sport. You started seeing less and less of them in the 80's I would say.

I think the 03's retired as the WW2 guys got too old to shoot or died off. The new shooters were all beginning with AR's I guess and the M-1A was on the way out by the late 80's early 90's.

I think it's only because Winchester made a "new" Model 70 short action (.308/.243/7mm-08) and the rifle was an easier to build, barrel, and accurize than the '03 platform.

Here is mine. It has old-time yellow bedding that is kind of falling apart. A Timney trigger.

Looks almost like a CG-63 stock.

Stock is a Bishop Challenger or Champion. Whichever it is, I have the opposite one on the first 03A3 match rifle that I built 45 years ago.

Bob, It is a Bishop and it is an o3/A3. Who ever put this rifle together sure knew what they were doing. I really hate to part with it but somethings have to go to make roon for others. The trigger on this rifle breaks cleaner than any other rifle I've fired.
